And the Winner is...

RBC has found our next great Innovators. After a morning of great presentations and intense deliberation from our judging panel the Next Great Innovators are....

Team RUMBA of the Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University! RUMBA will be taking homr the $20000.00 Grand Prize. Well done!

With a very competitive score, the eBiz Innovators of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto have captured second place.

Our 3 runner up teams are Three Bean Salad of Schulich at York University,
Rotman Breakthrough Concepts and The Hype Cyclists both of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto.

All the teams did a fantastic job today. We can all now enjoy a cocktail and some entertainment to cap off the evening.

I’ll close the day with a HUGE thank you to all the team members who helped get this year going and keep the momentum right to the end. To all the RBC staff who have helped and executives who have graciously given their time… THANKS!

Hooray for the undergrads!

Three Bean Salad did a wonderful job and really brought their proposal to life. All the teams are doing well- they are presenting to our panel in the boardroom of the RBC Plaza; all of them are very aware of the privilege to be given time in the boardroom of the largest company in Canada. (No pressure there…)

The Hype Cyclists are now at the podium. This team has he unique honour of being the peer voting choice. This is your team- the audience and supporters of the Challenge spoke and we heard you. Good luck Hype Cyclists!

Back from our break

Team RUMBA completed a terrific, interactive session. The panel went beyond regular questioning to ask the team to think on their feet and imagine even larger implementation opportunities, and RUMBA came through.

We’ve all recharged with coffee and have reconvened. Schulich’s Three Bean Salad solved some technical issues (solution? Use the MAC Powerbook!), are underway and into their presentation. Three Bean Salad are the only undergrad team this year and are doing a great job challenging the grad teams.

Moving from presentation 2 to 3

Rotman Breakthrough Concepts have wrapped up after some tough questions and great insights from out panel of executives. This idea really got the panel talking- way to go “RBC”. Now they can enjoy some downtime and with 2 of 5 presentations done start to wonder who will come out as the top team today.

Team Rumba, from Ryerson, are queued up to share their Innovation with us, and then onto one of the most important parts of the day… the COFFEE BREAK!

On to presentation number 2!

The eBiz Innovators are now done the hard part of their day- a benefit of bravely taking the first presentation spot. As they leave the board room they now have the opportunity to relieve a little stress; after a quick interview where they can tell us about the experience they can grab some more breakfast and head to the “cool down” room and play a game or two on the Wii! Great job eBiz Innovators!

Our second finalist team, on the other hand, are all charged up and ready to deliver for our judges.

The finals begin

All the teams and judges have gathered on the 40th floor of the RBC plaza for a lovely breakfast (thanks Lyanne, Rosie and all the staff on the 40th!). At this time the first team to present, the eBiz Innovators, have sequestered themselves to get in a last practice run before they face the panel in the RBC Boardroom.

Everyone is excited and getting ready to realy put their Innovative idea and proposal to the test!

The teams are on their way!

Less than 48 hours to go until the final judging in this year’s Next Great Innovator Challenge. While we’re very excited to see this year's teams go head to head in front of our panel of RBC executives, we’re also really looking forward to the whole Challenge experience. The teams will actually be joining us tomorrow for an evening of Innovation, a sneak peek at the client of the future and a chance to have a little fun. Then on Thursday the teams will be presenting in the board room of the RBC Plaza, in the middle of the action here in Toronto's financial district!

Check back here on Thursday for updates through the day as the action unfolds. The Grand Prize winner will be announced at the end of the day.

We wish all the teams good luck!
