Some of you may have participated in last year’s Next Great Innovator Challenge but I know many of our site’s visitors have just heard about the challenge. We at RBC had a great time putting together last year’s competition and we are very excited to bring you this year’s Next Great Innovator Challenge. The feedback we received from last year’s participants was incredibly valuable and we have done our best to take it to heart. We hope that we will make this year’s challenge an even better experience for students.
I invite all of you to check out this website; read through the challenge details, have a look at last year’s competition and take a first look at some of the resources posted in Tips & Links- http://www.rbc.com/innovator/innovators_tips.html.
If you want to get a feel for last year’s final competition have a look at the archived blog postings for the updates we posted as finalists were presenting. You can even sign up for text alerts to keep you posted on Innovator Challenge milestones, like the unveiling of this year’s challenge theme.
Based on student feedback we’ve also added:
• Google Maps to see who entered last year who’s entering this year
• Social Book Marking links so you can encourage friends to enter
• More Prize Money
• Text Alerts to keep you updated on competition milestones
• Peer Voting for a finalist team so you can choose one of the finalist teams
…And much more to come as we open the challenge!
That’s it for now and don’t forget to come back to our blog regularly for the latest updates on the competition and on innovation.
As a 3rd place finalist from last year, I think it is also important to note that the number of schools that submitted entries had nothing to do with the finalists.
My "alma mater", the University of Ottawa, only had 4 entrants, and finishing 3rd out of roughly 260 entrants is no small feat.
In the end, it was all about the level of "innovation" in the idea that got a team into the finals.
